“Video is the way-to-go!” It’s a maxim that is often repeated around content marketing circles. But as cliched as it may sound, video really is KING of the content marketing game. It is a platform that can drive engagement a hundred times more than what plain articles, images, or podcasts can do.
As high quality video cameras and DSLRs become more affordable as time goes by, more and more people are now integrating video content into their websites and online marketing campaigns. Problem is, there are a lot of people who just carelessly put out videos (for the sake of releasing videos) even if they don’t have a grasp of basic video production concepts.
Don’t be one of those people. Here are a few tips on making quality videos to help you out:
1. Know Your Medium
Chances are, you’ll be making videos for the web. Web videos are not full-length movies, so you don’t need to write a full-blown script. Condense everything that you need to say in five minutes tops, and make sure all the important stuff are already delivered to the audience in the first minute of the video.
2. Always use a tripod.
You think you might have steady hands, but the fact is- you don’t. A shaky video will always look unprofessional.
3. Get a dedicated audio recorder or microphone.
The integrated microphone on most cameras will probably not be enough to get clear audio for your video. Better invest in an external microphone to get better audio quality.
4. Stick to “Fade to Black”
Fancy transitions only work for family videos. If you want to keep things professional, stick to fade to black transitions or cross dissolve transitions.
5. Never shoot in vertical.
A vertical video is a sure sign that one has no experience in making videos whatsoever. Not only would you have trouble editing a vertical video, it is also very unappealing to the eye. Always keep your camera horizontally-oriented.
Once you keep these tips in mind you are ready to shoot your video, edit it and upload it to YouTube.
